Why did slavery come to mean racial or black slavery?
Slavery came to mean racial or black slavery because African kings sold many slaves to make a profit. Since people sold many African slaves, racial slavery spreaded through America. At first, there were only indentured servants but later on, more people became enslaved. Some indentured servants were turned into slaves as punishment when they did something unruly. An example of something unruly is an indentured servant running away from his/her workplace. Many slaves were people who were imprisoned or captures during war. These people were Native Americans or African Americans.
