How did free African Americans, especially in the North, develop their own institutions and actively seek the abolition of slavery?
Free African Americans, especially in the North, developed their own institutions and actively seek the abolition of slavery by giving speeches that convinced people to support the abolition of slavery. They spoke to crowds of people to tell and show them the pain of slaves and why they needed slavery to be abolished. Free African Americans used their freedom of speech to try to take action and abolish slavery. They felt the need to help out African Americans that weren't yet free. The efforts of the free African Americans did not go to waste since Abraham Lincoln took the first step to abolish slavery. Even though many people did not like the idea of abolishing slavery, Abraham Lincoln still tried to make it happen. This idea made many Africans Americans enlightened.
